The banshee, a haunting figure in Irish mythology, is known for her eerie wail that foretells death. Derived from “bean sídhe,” meaning “woman of the fairy mound,” she is tied to the mystical Otherworld.

Her appearance varies: she can be a beautiful young maiden, a dignified matron, or a haggard crone, often dressed in white or gray, with red eyes from weeping. Her keening cry, ranging from a sorrowful moan to a terrifying scream, serves as a warning of impending death.
